I cannot yet explain this weird behavior and I am sure that I am missing something. Guest Guest. Dumb question, but is the belt slipping? I was having the same problem you described on my ancient HCT with that type speed control system. I made a custom belt tensioner and it cured the problem.
The belt slipped during start up and speed changes. There is next to no adjustment on the motor to take up belt slack. First guess is that you have the phases wrong. That means that when the limit is calling for a speed increase the variable spped motor is running in the decrease direction. Every variable speed Hardinge I have seen, carries warnings about confirming the direction of spindle rotation prior to operating the speed control mechanism. Your variable speed mechanism is probably stuck against a limit switch.
There's a manual in the files section of the Hardinge lathe user's group on Yahoo. You have to join to view and download the files I believe this is true. Originally Posted by Jim Caudill. Pat G, I'd love a copy of both the maintenance and operator's manuals. What do you require for said copies? Wish I could edit my 1st post, in which I wrote "affilicated".
My manuals are not photocopies. I maintain a high standard of quality in my reproductions. Most of the manuals I reproduce look better than their originals. I have professionally digitally edited every page, and removed stains, wrinkles and handwriting. All of the manuals are printed on thick white paper to withstand shop wear and tear. Your email address will not be published. Overview: I have collected this information for many years and have found the information they contain to be priceless in using and setting up the machines properly.
