Page Accident statistics suggest that children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seating positions than in a front seating position. Page Make sure the tongue is securely fastened in the buckle. Position the child safety seat in a seat with a combination lap and shoulder belt. Pull down on the shoulder belt and then grasp the shoulder belt and lap belt together. Allow the belt to retract to remove slack. The belt will click as it retracts to indicate it is in the automatic locking mode.
Slide the tongue up the webbing. Insert the belt tongue into the proper buckle for that seating positions until you hear a snap and feel it latch. Make sure the tongue is securely latched to the buckle by pulling on the tongue. Page Ford Motor Company recommends the use of a child safety seat having a top tether strap.
See Attaching child safety seats with tether straps and Recommendations for attaching safety restraints for children in this chapter for more information. Page The seat should move less than one inch when you do this for a proper installation. If the safety seat is not anchored properly, the risk of a child being injured in a crash greatly increases.
Ford Motor Company recommends that all safety belt assemblies in use in vehicles involved in a collision be replaced. Department of Transportation-Tire quality grades: The U. Department of Transportation requires Ford Motor Company to give you the following information about tire grades exactly as the government has written it. You are strongly urged to buy a reliable tire pressure gauge, as automatic service station gauges may be inaccurate.
Ford recommends the use of a digital or dial-type tire pressure gauge rather than a stick-type tire pressure gauge. Page Always inflate your tires to the Ford recommended inflation pressure even if it is less than the maximum inflation pressure information found on the tire. Page For your safety, tires that are damaged or show signs of excessive wear should not be used because they are more likely to blow out or fail.
Page such as P-metric versus LT-metric or all-season versus all-terrain as those originally provided by Ford. Page 4. Use both eye and ear protection. For a mounting pressure more than 20 psi greater than the maximum pressure, a Ford Dealer or other tire service professional should do the mounting.
Always inflate steel carcass tires with a remote air fill with the person inflating standing at a minimum of 12 ft. Page Rotating your tires at the recommended interval as indicated in the scheduled maintenance information that comes with your vehicle will help your tires wear more evenly, providing better tire performance and longer tire life. Page These speed ratings may need to be adjusted for the difference in conditions.
These ratings are listed in the following chart. The tire suppliers may have additional markings, notes or warnings such as standard load, radial tubeless, etc. Maximum Load Single lb. Failure to properly maintain your tire pressure could increase the risk of tire failure, loss of control, vehicle rollover and personal injury. Check your tire pressure to ensure tires are properly inflated; refer to In- flating your tires in this chapter.
Page Inflate all the tires to the recommended inflation pressure. Use of any tire or wheel not recommended by Ford can affect the safety and performance of your vehicle, which could result in an increased risk of loss of vehicle control, vehicle rollover, personal injury and death. Page Note: For trailer towing information refer to Trailer towing found in this chapter or the RV and Trailer Towing Guide provided by your authorized dealer. If your vehicle will be towing a trailer, load from your trailer will be transferred to your vehicle.

Page WARNING: When one of the front wheels is off the ground, the transmission alone will not prevent the vehicle from moving or slipping off the jack, even if the vehicle is in P Park automatic transmission or R Reverse manual transmission. Note: To avoid damage to the wheel cover, the 6-spoke wheel cover cannot be removed until the tire is off the vehicle.
Page Reinstall the lug nuts until the wheel is snug against the hub. Do not fully tighten the lug nuts until the wheel has been lowered.
Lower the wheel by turning the jack handle counterclockwise. Use only Ford recommended replacement fasteners. WARNING: When a wheel is installed, always remove any corrosion, dirt or foreign materials present on the mounting surfaces of the wheel or the surface of the wheel hub, brake drum or brake disc that contacts the wheel.
Page Jump Starting 3. Park the booster vehicle close to the hood of the disabled vehicle making sure the two vehicles do not touch. Set the parking brake on both vehicles and stay clear of the engine cooling fan and other moving parts. Ensure that the cables are clear of fan blades, belts, moving parts of both engines, or any fuel delivery system parts. Remove the jumper cable from the ground metal surface.
Note: In the illustrations, lightning bolts are used to designate the assisting boosting battery. Do not tow with a slingbelt. Ford Motor Company has not approved a slingbelt towing procedure. If your vehicle is to be towed from the rear using wheel lift equipment, the front wheels drive wheels must be placed on a dolly to prevent damage to the transmission.
